With a length of 1,050 metres and a surface mix of 60% tarmac and 40% dirt, the Montalegre circuit has established itself as one of the most exciting tracks in Europe.
While the nearby Lousada circuit has long served as the stage for European competitions, Montalegre took over between 2007 and 2013. It then made history as the first venue to host a round of the FIA World Rallycross Championship. Since then, the World RX series has visited Montalegre nine times.
Renowned for its imposing kerbs, which require skilful navigation to reach top speeds, the circuit also has dirt sections that make for intense battles. Overtaking is often done in full drift, with drivers going door-to-door in spectacular clashes.
