Fresh off a championship-winning season in RallyX’s CrossCar Junior category, 14-year-old Hampus Hagström is set to embark on a full campaign in Supercar Lites, with his debut scheduled for May at the opening round of the RallyX North series in Riga.
The young Swede will benefit from the expertise of Hedström Motorsport. Dominant last season with six victories and nine podium finishes in ten races, Hampus made an indelible mark in CrossCar Junior—and now looks poised to become the youngest driver ever to compete in Supercar Lites.
“I’m incredibly grateful for this opportunity with Peter and the Hedström Motorsport team,” says Hampus.
“I can’t wait to get to grips with the car, the setup, and what it’s like to handle a four-wheel-drive machine.”
While the financial leap from a CrossCar program to a full Supercar Lites campaign is significant, Peter Hedström has gone above and beyond to support his young protégé’s transition to the next level of competition.
“I want to help promising young drivers like Hampus by offering guidance and support to help them build solid racing programs,” explains Hedström.
“Many have already stepped forward to back him. His previous sponsors came on board again, and I’ve also connected him with partners I’ve worked with in the past—with really positive feedback.”
“It’s genuinely inspiring to see how he dedicates all his free time to this project. Whether he’s working in the garage on the cars or out knocking on doors to raise the budget, the energy he puts in is a big part of what motivates me to keep supporting him.”
Ahead of his competitive debut, Hampus will take part in a first test session at Höljes just after Easter, followed by a second outing before Riga.
Between the experience of Peter Hedström and that of his father, Niklas Hagström, the young Swede knows he’s in good hands.
“They both have a huge amount of experience in rallycross and give me loads of advice,” says Hampus.
“Peter especially helps in areas where my dad might not be the best fit.”
Peter, for his part, reflects on the mentorship dynamic with a smile.
“The father-son relationship isn’t always easy—I’ve been there myself,” he admits.
“Back then, I had a strong tendency to do the exact opposite of what I was told! We’ll take things race by race, but we’ll be ready for Riga.”
“Hampus has both the talent and the speed, and I’ve seen that in him since his earliest days in CrossCar and Folkrace. Honestly, I wouldn’t be surprised to see him lining up on the grid for a final as early as this year.”
