After four seasons in the Junior CrossCar category, Pontus Oskarsson is preparing to open a new chapter in his motorsport career. Starting with the round in Riga, the 15-year-old Swede will make his full-time debut in the Supercar Lites class.

Oskarsson finished seventh overall in last year’s Junior CrossCar championship, with three final appearances to his name. Now, he’s set to step into an entirely new racing environment.

“I’ve always dreamed of succeeding in motorsport. When I was younger, my goal was to become the best in both motocross and folkrace in Sweden, but over time, I have to admit that things evolved,” Pontus explains.

Indeed, the young Swede is following in the footsteps of his father, Mats Oskarsson, who spent six seasons competing in Supercar Lites. During that time, Mats earned three podium finishes and twice ranked inside the overall Top 6.

Pontus’s move into Supercar Lites is the natural outcome of a gradual, purposeful progression.

“When my father bought his Supercar Lites car, I sold my motorcycle and started getting more and more interested in rallycross. I eventually bought a CrossCar and, after four seasons in the junior category, here I am talking to sponsors to make my debut season in Supercar Lites on this amazing platform that is RallyX”

“Of course, leaving the CrossCar category behind feels a bit strange, but I’m more than motivated and determined to take the next step in my development. At the end of the 2024 season, we looked at the options for 2025. CrossCar was on the table, but having a Supercar Lites already in our workshop made the decision pretty straightforward.”

And it’s a machine Pontus already knows like the back of his hand.

“When my dad decided to race in Supercar Lites, I started following him to the events. As I got older, I learned more and more about the car, and now I pretty much handle everything myself in the garage.”

This hands-on experience is expected to serve him well in the coming weeks. In the meantime, Pontus has wasted no time getting acquainted with the nuances of his new car.

“We’ve had two test sessions in Höljes, and I have to say I really started to find my rhythm with the car during the last run. Naturally, moving from a CrossCar to a four-wheel-drive car means there are a lot of adjustments to make. The Supercar Lites is a real race car, so you can’t squeeze through tight spaces like you can with a CrossCar. For me, the biggest challenge in 2025 will be getting comfortable in the car and feeling fully in control behind the wheel.”

While Pontus doesn’t hide his ambitions, he sees the 2025 season primarily as a learning experience.

“Of course we want to be at the front of the field, but I’m realistic. My main goal is to keep up with the rest of the field and improve from there. I don’t know the true level of my competitors yet, but just reaching the semi-finals regularly – and maybe even earning a spot in a final – would be a great achievement for a first season in Supercar Lites.”
