After winning the opening race of the weekend at Montalegre in the Supercar Lites category, Julien Meunier could not have hoped for a better start to the season, following up his second place in Race 2.

It was a performance that gave the OMSE Team driver every reason to be satisfied.

“We definitely had a lot of questions going into this first race of the championship, but our goal was always to fight for the win, no matter what. We knew we had the pace. We’d already shown that at the Estering at the end of last season, even if we didn’t get the win there. This time it happened and it’s a great reward,” said Meunier after Race 1.

From fourth in the intermediate standings on Sunday, the two-time French Super1600 champion found the strength to turn things around and claim his second consecutive podium.

“We are in a good rhythm. Obviously we’re a bit more confident than we were at the start of the weekend. But anything can happen. In Race 1, I was third going into Q3 and still managed to get to the top of the intermediate classification, so I know how quickly things can swing in either direction.”

“I have to say I had a few scary moments in the final on Saturday – and again on Sunday! Montalegre is a demanding track, with some pretty tricky sections at times (smiles). To be honest, I didn’t think it would be a track that suited me, but in the end we managed it well. I thought more circuit-style tracks like Valkenswaard or Riga would suit us better, but we’ll see how things go in the next rounds of RallyX.”
