After finishing fifth in the 2024 Open 4WD Pro Am championship in his debut season behind the wheel of Hedström Motorsport’s VW Polo Supercar, Filip Thorén is set to return to RallyX.
The Swedish driver will focus on a nine-round campaign, starting his season in Latvia on 9-10 May.
Last year, Thorén reached the finals in seven events in the Pro-Am category. Now, under the continued guidance of Peter Hedström, he is looking to build on that momentum.
In the coming days, Thorén is expected to return to the cockpit of his VW Polo for pre-season testing. This time, the car will be more closely tailored to his driving style, thanks to the introduction of a new central differential.
“I tend to drive with a bit of understeer, so this upgrade should suit me perfectly,” explained Thorén.
“Another key area I want to improve is my launch efficiency”

Thorén’s official return to competition will take place next month in Riga – a track he knows well from his time in the FIA RX2e Championship.
“Riga is a track that really suits the way I like to drive,” he said.
“Even though I’ll be using the simulator to refresh my memory, there’s no doubt that this layout demands absolute precision when it comes to hitting the right lines.”
One of the breakout performers of the 2024 season, Thorén is careful not to get ahead of himself.
“My main goal is simply to continue to develop as a driver, without forcing things or pushing myself beyond my current limits. If I manage to finish on the podium this year, it would be a great achievement but it’s not something I’m fixated on.”
Hedström Motorsport Team Principal Peter Hedström is confident about the 2025 season.
“We will start testing as soon as the weather conditions allow,” said Hedström.
“Filip made great progress last season. Towards the end of the championship his consistency really stood out. I won’t hide the fact that I’m excited to start a new campaign with him”
