When the RallyX series kicks off at the Montalegre circuit next weekend, Norwegian driver Thomas Eek Murstad makes one thing clear: he’s not here to play a supporting role.

After three consecutive seasons in the top 3 of the overall standings, the Scandinavian racer – who has five wins and 12 podiums in his career – enters the new campaign with a single goal: to finally take the crown.

A proven force in the RallyX paddock, Murstad returns with his sights firmly set on victory. His ambition is as strong as ever and his motivation has only grown.

“When I line up on the grid, it’s to win. The level of competition in this category is incredibly high, with fast, experienced drivers. And in a championship as demanding as this, anything can happen.”

Even more than the results, Murstad thrives on the intense atmosphere and relentless pace of the CrossCar class.

“We love the atmosphere of RallyX as well as the fierce competition in the CrossCar category. The chronograph tells you very quickly whether you’re in the fight or not – and if you’re off the pace, there’s only one thing to do: work even harder to get back to the front as quickly as possible”

This season the goal is crystal clear. After coming close time and time again, Murstad knows it’s time to turn consistency into a title.

“I’ve been painfully close to winning several times in the past few years, so yes, I want this title. I’m hungry for redemption and success, and I’m going to give it everything I’ve got. It’s not just about speed – we’ll also need reliability and, as always, a bit of luck along the way”

Behind the scenes, the winter break has been anything but quiet for the Scandinavian team. Their Speedcar chassis has undergone a complete overhaul, with no detail left to chance.

“We have completely rebuilt our Speedcar Wonder with some additional upgrades. I’ve spent countless hours in the garage during the off-season making sure everything is ready. Not a day goes by without me thinking about how we can improve our technical package”

As far as the calendar is concerned, the opening round at Montalegre holds a special place in Murstad’s heart.

“Montalegre is probably the track I’m most looking forward to. It’s one of the most iconic tracks in rallycross. I’m not sure yet how our chassis will perform there, but I can’t wait to experience it.”

That anticipation, however, comes with a logistical challenge.

“It’s a bit of a paradox – Montalegre is the track that convinced us to sign for a full season, but it’s also the one that almost made us pull out, considering how far it is from Norway,” says Murstad with a smile.

Looking further ahead, the Swedish round at Älvsbyn will be another highlight of the 2025 season.

“I’m also really looking forward to Älvsbyn. It’s an incredible track – fast, full of thrilling corners and built on a layout with great elevation changes. It’s pure driving pleasure.”
